Some surgeons who favor the laparoscopic TEP approach to inguinal hernia repair have been reluctant to use the Da Vinci robot for inguinal hernias since it requires a trans-abdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) approach to allow room for the 10cm separation needed between the robotic trocar sites with the S and Si robot models. Since the Xi robotic platform allows for closer trocar placement, only 6 cm, the Xi can now be used to accomplish a TEP inguinal hernia repair as is shown in this video.
