Quality Link Building - What You Need to know
Quality content is essential when it comes to your website. In addition, each page needs to be fully optimized for search engines for the best results. Therein lies a conundrum; how can you create quality content that will also be found by the search engines? If your content has no keywords, no one will find it. If it is 'too SEO driven', then Google may punish your site. The solution to being able to produce the content you want while still getting found online involves understanding how to utilize quality Link Building techniques.
What is Link Building?
Link building is the process of obtaining relevant inbound links to your website that will help your website achieve higher ranking with the major search engines, thus driving more targeted traffic to your site.
Link Building needs to revolve around quality, not quantity. This is a change from the past. When the Internet was new and still a novelty to many, the number of links you had was considered to be of great importance when it came to search engines. Now, your links must come from reputable sites in order to gain an advantage in the search engines. This is especially true when it comes to the post-Penguin world.
The Penguin update was designed to catch those sites that fall between spam and excellent quality. Any site that engages in negative SEO will be affected by this change. One area that has been identified as being a problem is unnatural links. If your site has one or more of these links, you may have received a warning. In all fairness though, most sites who received these warnings were engaging in black-hat techniques.
If you buy or sell links, you were possibly affected. What do you do if your site was removed from the search engines due to questionable links? You have the option of starting fresh or you can try to clean up your site. Even if you weren't affected, this may be a smart thing to do so you aren't tagged in the future. How do you go about establishing quality links for your site?
How Do You Get Quality Links?
* One way to do so is to make use of press releases. A press release is fairly easy to write and you can send them electronically which doesn't cost a dime. Although your release may not make it on to majornews stations, you will find that there are plenty of sites that will be more than happy to use your release. Be sure to send your press release to those sites which are specific to your industry. This will target those who are most interested in what you have to offer.
* Social media is of great importance when it comes to developing quality links. Most people think of Facebook and/or Twitter when it comes to the big social networks, but there are many others. Pinterest is rapidly gaining attention and is one area where you can build quality links in very little time. Make sure you have great images as they are what allows you to get pinned. Don't overlook social networks that are specific to a country or industry either.
* Blogs are a great way to get noticed. Offer to do a guest post on a blog that is relevant to your industry or niche. This is one of the best ways to get quality back links from various sources. Make sure to focus on different angles in these posts for the best results. Don't offer to do blog posts for industries unrelated to yours though as this will harm rather than help.
* Directory links are still worthwhile, but only if you make use of high-quality directories. Some of the free directories are supposedly being removed from the search engines although there is no proof of this at the moment. Why take the risk though if you don't have to? Good directories are available. It's all a matter of looking.
Sitewide links are also of no benefit to you. This type of link is one that appears on each page of a particular site. Be aware that these links only count as one link in the eyes of the search engines. The only other thing these links do is clutter up a site and irritate users.
Google offers two tools to make finding quality links easier. Take full advantage of Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools. They will show you who your target audience is and which sites they come from. You can even customize Google Analytics to make this easier to do. This gives you a place to start when it comes to building good links, ones that will help you move up in the search engine rankings.
